Alice & Martyn’s Engagement Session at Shotover Country Park

Last weekend, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting up with Alice and Martyn for their engagement session at Shotover Country Park in Oxfordshire. It’s one of those places that feels like a hidden gem — tall trees stretching up to the sky, winding woodland paths, and the soft golden light peeking through the leaves. The perfect setting for a relaxed, love-filled shoot.

We wandered through the woods at a slow pace, just chatting and getting to know each other. That’s always my favourite part — no awkward posing, no pressure, just two people being themselves. Somewhere along the way, we came across a charming tree swing hanging from a sturdy old branch, and it instantly became one of those “we have to stop here” moments. Alice jumped on, Martyn stood beside her grinning, and it was magic. That blend of spontaneity and connection is what I love most about this work.

As we walked, I kept things light and playful — a bit of humour always helps everyone relax. And when people feel relaxed, their real personalities shine through. That’s when the natural smiles happen, the tiny glances, the genuine laughter. And honestly, those are the moments that make photos timeless.

Each spot in the park offered something different — textured backdrops, open clearings, and those soft little patches of light that give photos their glow. But what stood out most was the way Alice and Martyn just fit together. Their comfort with each other was effortless, and it came through in every single frame.

What made the session even more special was knowing I’ll be capturing their wedding in August 2025. These shoots are such a brilliant way to build that connection ahead of the big day — not just for me to get to know the couple, but for them to get a feel for how I work. That way, when the wedding rolls around, there’s already trust and familiarity, and the photography just becomes a natural part of the day.
